''In this day and age you have hundreds of attacks on every single Internet connection every single day,'' said Jonathan Rosenoer, director of risk and compliance solutions in IBM Corp.'s financial services practice. (http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/retail/2005-06-21-cvs-security-flaw_x.htm, June 21, 2005)

Because virus, trojans, and other computer malware have become so prevalent, it not worthwhile to post notices of individual threats except perhaps in extraordinary circumstances. It is better simply to make the strong recommendation that any computer connected to the Internet or through removable media loads programs or data, or by any other was is exposed to outside data transfer or communication be protected by a up to date anti-virus program, anti-spyware program, and a firewall.

Don't be fooled by e-mail messages offering fixes or protection from viruses.
These often are the hackers' method of getting you to open an attachment that contains a virus, often the very one for which it supposedly is going to provide protection. Use anti-virus programs and virus removal tools only from reputable anti-virus vendors!

We all also need to be aware of "phishing," in which it appears we have received a legitimate e-mail message from a firm with which we do business which asks for account data. If one does not look carefully, it can appear, either through return e-mail or on a web site, that one is responding to the legitimate firm when in reality one is giving such account information to someone else. Be careful, check the URL and other resources to make sure you are sending any such information to the legitimate outfit. Better yet, initiate your own communication with the firm that purportedly contacted you using independently acquired web/e-mail address/phone number and ask if the request from them was legitimate. It's almost never legitimate if a firm is asking you for your account id and/or password if it originated the request without your first attempting to log on.

This information is provided as a convenience to our clients and to other Internet users. It is not a comprehensive list of computer system threats and all computer users are advised to routinely check with their anti-virus software vendor or CERT for more comprehensive and timely information.

Providing an ethical service to our clients is as important to us as our technical skills.
